Five new programs of Animal Assisted Therapy in Mental Health Care Complex Benito Menni

30/01/2012

Starting in January and over a period of 10 weeks we will be visiting the mental health complex Benito Menni in order to provide animal-assisted interventions to a wide variety of residents.  Two of the groups are a continuation of teamwork begun in 2011, one with young people from 12 to 18 years residing in the Adolescent Crisis Unit, and the other with seniors with mental health disorders.   Thanks to the success of last year’s programme the dynamics of the youth group sessions will remain virtually the same.  In the area of psycho geriatrics we will be working for the first time with the seniors in the D + E units and with those who come to the day care centre.

We are excited about the two new groups we will be working with, the mentally and physically disabled, and bed-ridden patients in the psyco-geriatric ward.

The Positivas Can canine team, Volka, Bau, Milu, Saburo, Kako and Shiro, will be accompanying us two days a week on our visits to Benito Menni, helping us work towards achieving the therapeutic goals established for each group.

The Second edition of the Animal-Assisted Therapy project in the Benito Menni Mental Health Welfare Complex a great success.
